Where is Summer?

Well, it is officially summer, so where is it? It is freezing up here on the mountain! School is out for us and I was hoping we would be spending most of our days at Barnet Marine Park, Rocky Point Park, or Blue Mountain. instead we have been hanging around the house and terrorizing our neighbours. We did find some cool places last weekend (thanks Jenn!), they were a bit of a drive, but worth it.

The first place we went was Krause Berry Farms. It is about a 45 minute drive, off exit 73 on the Trans Canada Highway. It is the exit you would take for the Vancouver Zoo, which is also cool on a not-so-nice-but-not-raining-day. At Krause Farms we took a tour of the farm on a horse drawn wagon ($2 bucks a person) and picked a giant bucket of strawberries in about 10 minutes. The kids loved it! They have a few animals in a small petting zoo, there were horses, a donkey, sheep and goats. The girls were thrilled they got to pet a donkey!

Afterward, we checked out their market where they have the best cookies I have ever had, Krause Korn Nuggets (sweet, salty, evil), chocolate covered strawberries, fresh berries and produce, and a lovely selection of canned goods. Outside they have a huge expanded patio where you can order from their kitchen and a try a slice of their famous corn pizza (sounds weird, tastes good), pastries, smoothies and other yummy treats. There is a giant play area for kids right next door, so you can enjoy your treats while the kids play. Bring a change of clothes just in case, its a big sandbox!

The next place we went was just down the street, JD Turkey Farms. It wasn’t as exciting for the kids, but they have a nice deli with delicious split pea soup (with turkey of course), gorgeous sandwiches, and yummy muffins (I don’t think they had turkey in them). They sell homemade, local turkey products from their farm where the turkeys are grain fed, with no antibiotics.

The drive home was pretty peaceful, the kids slept and I gobbled up my Krause Maple Walnut Fudge. Nice.
